    Members of Local 135;

    This Wednesday the Board of Fire District #1 (Sedgwick County Fire) is considering voting out from under PEERA  (Public Employee Employer Relations Board).  The current Fire Board will have several new members added after the first of the year.   This vote should not take place prior to the newly elected members being sworn in.

    This action would get rid of the collective bargaining process for County Fire.   This would allow wages, vacation, sick leave, longevity, and many other bargained for items to be changed by a stroke of the pen, there would no longer be a contract.   Fire District #1 has negotiated with Local 2612 for decades.   If they fail to reach an agreement, there are procedures in place in PEERA to cover this.   If the Fire Board determines they no longer want to participate, the members of Local 2612 will no longer have a voice in determining their pay and or working conditions.

    If the County does this you can bet that the City of Wichita will not be too far behind in trying to do the same to us.

    I am asking everyone to Please contact your Fire Board member and tell them to remain under PEERA.  They are also your County Commissioners. We need a majority of the board to vote to stay with PEERA.  This is another run and taking your voice away

    If you would like to attend the meeting it will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Commission Meeting Room, located on the third floor of the Sedgwick County Courthouse, 525 N. Main.  Wear a Union shirt so that you can be recognized.

    To send an E-mail you can click this link to be taken to a contact page.  Feel free to contact your commissioner, or all of them.  They can also be reached by phone at 316-660-9300.
