Members of Local 135,
Tomorrow or the next day the Senate in Kansas will vote on House Bill 2096 ( SB 179 & SB 212 combined). This issue will significantly impact your working conditions for the rest of your career. If passed the rights and protections you currently enjoy will no longer be in place. I cannot stress how critical this is. If we remain silent, we will be silenced.
Here is an example of the changes in management rights we can look forward to. This would be added to management rights.
Proposed HB 2096 Page 7 Line 31-35
determine the criteria, procedures and methods by which candidates for hire, promotion, demotion, transfer, assignment, retention, furlough, lay off or termination are identified; and (i) determine which personnel shall be hired, promoted, demoted, transferred, assigned, retained, furloughed, laid off or terminated.
This means things like seniority, layoff protections, or publication of the promotional list are among the many things this could eliminate.
YOU MUST CALL AND WRITE YOUR REPRESENTATIVES, have your friends and family make contact as well.
I have attached a sample letter (Letter to Legislators 2-23-15) for you to copy and paste in an e-mail to your representatives. You will need to fill in your name and years of service. To find out who represents you go to www.openkansas.org and enter your address.
In addition I will attach an overview of the bill as well as a full version.
If you need more information on this issue please contact the office.
